Papers of the Wilmette Bicentennial Commission. The Wilmette Bicentennial Commission was created by Village Ordinance 74-0-13, and began meeting in June, 1974, on a regular basis to plan for Wilmette's celebration of the Bicentennial. Olene Sailor was appointed Chairman, with the following members: Vice-Chairman, Sam Pfeffer; Secretary, Betty Fox; Treasurer, Kay Schultz; Heritage, John Ryan; Festival, Toots Sack; Horizons, Ann Brackett; Communications, Mona Foulke; and Youth, Brian Cornelius. Later John Shedd replaced Kay Schultz and Todd Young, a high school student, was added. Their responsibilities included arranging special community events and encouraging local groups and organizations to carry out their own Bicentennial projects. The final report of the Commission was filed with the Wilmette Village Board on October 18, 1977. Wilmette Bicentennial Commission donated this collection after the Commission was dissolved. |
