Black leather motorcycle or winter jacket and goldtone nameplate used by Wilmette Police Department officer, Edward Kowalski. .001A) Jacket. The jacket is made of thick, black, heavy-grained leather, known as cowhide. The jacket is styled like an Ike jacket, popular in the 1950s. The jacket has a turned-down notched collar. The back has vertical pleats. Center front opening has both zipper and snaps. Top four snaps are covered by a goldtone button with "P" in the center. Epaulettes at shoulders, and grommetted holes for namplates above pockets on either side. Pockets are large, kangaroo pockets with flaps closed by hook and loop closures and decorated with a goldtone "P" button. Long sleeves each have a patch at shoulder and black knit storm sleeves at cuff interior. Patch is the embroidered version of the official Village seal. At top of patch: "WILMETTE / POLICE." Elastic on sides of waistband. Silvertone zipper on inside around facing is there for an unknown purpose. The lining of the jacket is made of quilted black nylon or acetate. There are interior pockets, all lined with white cotton twill. The two lower ones are zippered. On the surface of the left inside pocket is a white and black woven label: "TAILORED BY / ADVANCE / UNIFORMS / CHICAGO." Inside that pocket is an ID label: "ADVANCE UNIFORMS / 1132 SOUTH WABASH, CHICAGO, ILL 60605 UNION MADE / 44 R / E.F.KOWALSKI." On the other side of the interior is a union label. .001B). Nameplate. The detachable nameplate is made of goldtone metal. In center: "E.F. KOWALSKI." On reverse of nameplate: "U.S.PAT. NO. 3,311,956 / REEVES COMPANY, INC / ATTLEBORO, MASS."" At this time, the nameplate has been detached and is stored on the inside of the right pocket. Caution: the nameplate has sharp pins and is without pinchbacks. |
