Signed and dated by artist in lower left corner. Back of frame has a paper label which reads, "The Central Stolp Grammer [sic] School - 10th Street @ Central Av Wilmette." Margaret Selleck (1887-1958) trained at the School of the Art Institute, where she was a student of Rudolph Weisenborn and Dudley Crafts Watson. She exhibited her work in the 1930s - 1950s in Midwest galleries and shows and lectured on Chicago-area history using her artwork to illustrate her talks. This painting was submitted to the Wilmette Historical Commission as part of its Charter Day project in 1949. Selleck was the daughter of Dr. & Mrs. Lorin Hall, who moved to Wilmette around 1908. Margaret married Eugene Roy Selleck in 1918, and they later lived at 607 Ninth Street in the village. |
