Black binder of information and copy photos about the John and Portia Gage family and their relatives, the Kellogg and Shepard families, as well as Gage ancestors and descendants. It is unclear who compiled the information, but it would seem to have been one of the sons of Asahel and Helen Shepard Gage, probably spearheaded by Asahel Willey Gage. The binder has a pebbled cloth cover and the 78 pages are bound together with a clip on the spine. The black and white copy photos are glued onto the pages. There are tan or blue divider-type pages in the binder, but the arrangement of the pages is confusing. It seems that at some point the binder pages were taken out and not put back together in the original order. The notebook contains many typed letters dated from the 1940s on onion skin paper (copies?), mostly correspondence between A.W. Gage, John S. Gage, John K. Gage, and Victor Gage discussing some property and tax issues but mostly family history. The letters are from Evanston, St. Petersburg, Florida, Philadelphia, and various places in New York state. There are also many typed pages of local history, including 7 pages (numbered 4 - 10) about Lake County family history (Gage, Shepard); historical information about the Ipswich, Massachusetts Gages, and a later section of 8 pages about Essex County, Massachusetts, with maps (also about the Gages); an essay on the origin of the name of Gage; and a genealogy chart from John Gage, 1635 to the children of Asahel and Helen Shepard Gage (married 1867), with a little data on Portia Kellogg Gage. There is little about Wilmette. Front and back covers in Image Management (1 and 7 in Image Management); the other five images are examples of content throughout the book, which is many more pages. |
